How to Increase Vocabulary
There are lots of ways to enlarge your vocabulary, but whatever you do, keep practicing. My simple ways of expanding my vocabulary are as follows: 1. Reading newspapers or whatever you like - it is not only reading but also practicing note-tak ing and using new words by both speaking and writing simple sentences before moving on to complex sentences. 2. Knowing the origins of English words - most English words are derived from Greek and Latin. It is very important to master the most common prefixes, roots and suffixes that are used to form words in English. Knowing the original meaning of a prefix, root, or suffix will give you a clue of what that word possibly means. One of the common prefixes is 'un-', which means 'not', as you can find it in countless English words such as tidy/untidy, happy/unhappy, lock/unlock, etc. 3.
