Certificate in Tangible Things

Short Introduction to Tangible Things

Harvard University Professor Dr. Laurel Thatcher Ulrich and her team orgainized a course called in short as Tangible Things. Tangible things are objects that are seeable, touchable and understandable in everyday life, such as cars, books, tables, chairs, seats, buildings, etc. These can connect things to the past and the present.

This course primarily aims to help discover how material objects have shaped academic disciplines and reinforced or challenged boundaries between people from different backgrounds, to help improve close looking and critical thinking skills through objects mostly housed inside Harvard museums, and to help analyze how material objects are related to each other and what they can tell about past/present events.

At the end of the course, all the participants who complete the course assignments, materials and projects provided in the five modules graded by course instructors and peers are eligible to gain a certificate of completion. At least 70% of the course is required.
