Vesakha Bucha Day for the Year 2016 at Sanam Luang, Bangkok , Thailand
14-20 May, 2016
Significance
of Vesakha Bucha Day (Buddha Day)
Vesakha Bucha Day or Buddha Day
is a very prominent day for all Buddhists to celebrate as it specially marks
the birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha, which all occurred on
the same day more than 2,500 years ago. As Vesakha Bucha Day was recognized in
1999 by United Nations as “International Day”, the Buddhist assembly has
considered Vesakha Bucha day worldwide as a special day to commemorate the teachings
of the lord Buddha in the Thai Buddhist style.
This year, the “Buddhism
Promotion Week” event features merit-making ceremonies, activities, exhibitions
and other forms of celebration throughout the week to honor its three events of
the Buddha, including His Majesty King Bhumibol and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit as
Buddhist role models for Thai Buddhists.
Since 1984, the event has become as a
beautiful part of Thai Buddhist tradition annually and a great chance,
especially for this year’s Buddhism Promotion Week event, to honor His Majesty
King Bhumibol and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the King and the Queen as the
heads of the Buddhist country of Thailand.

schedules, responsibilities and tasks after an official approval from the
appointed committee, in order to be easy for the committee to elect masters of
